Our History

“Wednesday Mothers” Founded

Our service began as a selfhelp group for mothers, which started meeting in Granville in 1977 and became registered as a charitable organisation in 1978.

The group was known as “Wednesday Mothers”, and at their weekly meetings mothers were able to socialise, support each other and hear speakers on various topics of interest.

Parramatta Family Support

Very soon, the organisation started to run other group programs as well and relocated to Parramatta so in 1984 its name was changed to Parramatta Family Support.

Originally the organisation was run by volunteers, but gradually the service started to receive government funding to employ some parttime staff.

Parramatta/Holroyd Family Support Inc

Parramatta Family Support became incorporated and expanded further to work in the Holroyd local government area so in 1988 we were re-named Parramatta/Holroyd Family Support Inc (or PHFS for short).

PHFS Relocation to Pendle Hill

After relocating to Guildford and then Greystanes, PHFS moved to Pendle Hill in 1990, where we continue to be located today.

Our organisation has grown over the years, continuing to add new services and staff.

Young Parents Program

We have run parenting programs regularly since the late 1980s, and a Young Parents program since 1993.

Regular Outreach Programs

In 2009 we began running regular group programs in local schools.

Staying Home Leaving Violence

In 2012 our Staying Home Leaving Violence program began.

SAGE Community Services

Our work now covers more than just the Parramatta and Holroyd areas, and more than just family support so in 2022 we became known as SAGE Community Services.
