Celebrating
Sydney WorldPride
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people are part of every community and face different challenges and barriers in accessing support and care.
We can all help to create an inclusive, supportive and judgement-free society by caring for and showing our support to the LGBTQ+ community in many different ways.
Respect
Recognise that LGBTQ+ people come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures that are different from yours. Take the time to educate yourself and learn about the different experiences, beliefs and values that they have. You can show respect by listening to their experiences, asking questions, using the right language and showing kindness.
Learn
Educate yourself, your family and friends. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, do research and be honest about what you don’t know.
Speak up
Stand up against discrimination, challenge stereotypes and help share what you’ve learned about the challenges and barriers the LGBTQ+ community face.
Get involved
Participate in community events celebrating LGBTQ+ people or raising awareness of the issues they face – such as Sydney WorldPride.
Create a safe space
Create a safe and supportive environment. Let any LGBTQ+ people in your life know that you support and welcome them. Know what support services are available so you can help them reach out to one if they need to.
Be an ally
Come out as an ally. Anyone, from any culture, regardless of their own gender identity or sexual orientation can be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
